According to study, multiple employees often work part-time in ir main occupations. They are paid less than workers who do not have a job. The authors of study see several reasons for sharp increase in multiple employment: re has been a high demand for manpower, wages have been weakly developed and part-time employment has increased.
However, even more effects would have had legislative changes that made minor jobs more attractive. That’s what authors criticize. In Germany, especially low-income earners, who often carry out parallel jobs, have to pay high taxes in international comparisons. “Favouring a second job with anor employer is not right instrument to counteract this,” study says. Small subjobs made “hardly any contribution to sustainable occupational development and age assurance”. It would be more sensible to strengn work in main profession, for example by lowering social security contributions for low-income earners.
