The hostage taker of Gladbeck, Dieter Degowski, is released after almost 30 years of imprisonment. This was decided by Arnsberg District Court. Thus, Degowski will be released in next few months and will be given a new name, which will help him to reintegrate.

Degowski had attacked a bank in Ruhr town of Gladbeck and took several hostages in hostage-taking of Gladbeck in August 1988 with his furr imprisoned accomplice Hans-Jürgen Rösner. In course of ir three-day flight, perpetrators shot two hostages, a policeman was killed during operation by a traffic accident.
Particular severity of debt found
Because of crime, Degowski and Rösner 1991 were sentenced to life imprisonment by Landgericht Essen. Later, in case of both perpetrators, courts identified a particular severity of debt, which precludes early release after 15 years. For Degowski detained in Werl, a maximum period of 24 years was fixed, which he had long served.
2013, Landgericht had asked JVA to prepare it gradually for release. For preparation of decision for a release Degowskis, Arnsberg chamber, among or things, brought in opinion of a renowned expert. In addition, Degowski was personally consulted.
