Jennifer Shaw and Matthew Reeves took the witness stand this morning to defend their father at a "stand your ground" hearing, which is being held to determine if Reeves, 74, should be immune from prosecution in the 2014 shooting death of Chad Oulson. Matthew Reeves, who followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a Tampa police officer, was present when the elder Reeves shot Oulson, 43, at the Cobb Grove 16 theaters in Wesley Chapel. Hernando County deputies fatally shot a man this morning, hours after he was accused of killing one dog with a knife and injuring another, threatening residents living around the area of Cedar Lane near Duffield Road in Brooksville, and scuffling with law enforcement.

A Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office corporal was fired after deputies arrested her early today on a driving under the influence charge. Jo Anna Barker, hired in October 2011, worked for the Department of Detention and Corrections, the Sheriff’s Office said. She was off-duty at the time of her arrest.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence moved today to assuage European Union fears about the strength of Washington’s support for the union and its commitment to European security through the NATO military alliance. During meetings in Brussels, Pence said he was acting on behalf of President Donald Trump "to express the strong commitment of the United States to continued cooperation and partnership with the European Union."
