Bethlehem’s favorite animal product-free bakery is once again earning national recognition.
Vegan Treats claimed a spot on PETA’s list of the “Top 10 Vegan Sweet Treats” from restaurants and bakeries throughout the United States.
The bakery’s “Peanut Butter Bomb,” a chocolate Bundt cake filled and topped with peanut butter mousse, won the recognition. The cake is one of Vegan Treats’ signature items — the announcement from PETA called it “a peanut butter lover’s dream come true” that “helped put the iconic bakery on the map.”
This Lehigh Valley restaurant was just named one of the nation’s 100 best
The bakery, located at 1444 Linden St. in Bethlehem, has earned devotees both locally and throughout the country, including celebrity customers like Gwyneth Paltrow and Alicia Silverstone. And its plaudits don’t just come from vegans — in 2012, Vegan Treats was named one of the world’s 10 best bakeries by Departures magazine. It was the only vegan bakery to be included in the list.
The new PETA list scanned the country to determine the best vegan sweet treats, aiming to showcase the wide availability of desserts that don’t involve animals products. The Bethlehem bakery ranked in the top 10 with Sublime Restaurant & Bar in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Cinnaholic in Atlanta; Passion Flour Patisserie in Salt Lake City; Avalon International Breads in Detroit; My Vegan Sweet Tooth in Virginia Beach, Virginia; Strong Hearts Cafe in Syracuse, New York; Sweet Ritual in Austin, Texas; Little Pine in Los Angeles; and Back to Eden Bakery in Portland, Oregon.
The winners will receive frame certificates recognizing the honor.
