The US communications authority has announced a new vote on abolition of Obama administration’s net neutrality rules. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published on its website a statement by President of institution, Ajit Pai. It states that authority will be on 14th of December on draft entitled Restoring Internet Freedom Order (about: “Order to restore freedom on Internet”).

2015, FCC had adopted regulations that should regulate net neutrality more stringently. For example, providers have been prohibited from favouring services on Internet traffic when y pay – and to slow down or even block non-paying services.

if ( typeof AdController !== ‘undefined’ !window.Zeit.isMobileView()) { if ( !document.getElementById( ‘iqadtile8’ ) ) { var elem = document.createElement( ‘div’ ); elem.id = ‘iqadtile8’; elem.className = “ad ad-desktop ad-desktop–8 ad-desktop–8-on-article”; elem.setAttribute(‘data-banner-type’, ‘desktop’); elem.setAttribute(‘data-banner-label’, ‘Anzeige’); document.getElementById(‘ad-desktop-8’).parentNode.appendChild(elem); AdController.render(‘iqadtile8’); if ( window.console typeof window.console.info === ‘function’ ) { window.console.info(‘AdController ‘ AdController.VERSION ‘ tile 8 desktop’) } } }

The Republican representatives in authority had resisted se regulations, but without success. Pai, n a member of PCC, was considered a decisive opponent of net neutrality. He argued that rules would lead to poorer service and a slower internet. Pai was appointed chairman of Authority by US President Donald Trump earlier this year. Previously, Trump had already postponed majority of FCC in favor of Republicans.

FCC promises more investment and innovation

“This decision was a mistake,” writes Pai in statement published on Tuesday with a view to decisions of that time. The regulation of 2015 refers to it as too cumbersome. It would have diminished investment in expansion of broadband networks and prevented innovation. The authority wants to return to a “leaner and market-based framework”, as it would have already been 20 years before. It would have ensured that US internet economy would “put whole world in envy.”

if ( typeof AdController !== ‘undefined’ !window.Zeit.isMobileView()) { if ( !document.getElementById( ‘iqadtile4’ ) ) { var elem = document.createElement( ‘div’ ); elem.id = ‘iqadtile4’; elem.className = “ad ad-desktop ad-desktop–4 ad-desktop–4-on-article”; elem.setAttribute(‘data-banner-type’, ‘desktop’); elem.setAttribute(‘data-banner-label’, ‘Anzeige’); document.getElementById(‘ad-desktop-4’).parentNode.appendChild(elem); AdController.render(‘iqadtile4’); if ( window.console typeof window.console.info === ‘function’ ) { window.console.info(‘AdController ‘ AdController.VERSION ‘ tile 4 desktop’) } } } if ( typeof AdController !== ‘undefined’ window.Zeit.isMobileView()) { if ( !document.getElementById( ‘iqadtile4’ ) ) { var elem = document.createElement( ‘div’ ); elem.id = ‘iqadtile4’; elem.className = “ad ad-mobile ad-mobile–4 ad-mobile–4-on-article”; elem.setAttribute(‘data-banner-type’, ‘mobile’); document.getElementById(‘ad-mobile-4’).parentNode.appendChild(elem); AdController.render(‘iqadtile4’); if ( window.console typeof window.console.info === ‘function’ ) { window.console.info(‘AdController ‘ AdController.VERSION ‘ tile 4 mobile’) } } }

This is why authority wants to stop managing Internet on smallest level, writes Pai. Instead, ISPs should be required to work transparently so that consumers can buy service that is best for m. “Entrepreneurs and or small companies can have technical information y need to innovate,” statement says.

Pai also writes that he wants to make adoption of new rules transparent. Pais complete design should be open to public from Wednesday, authority shared on Twitter.

With about net neutrality is old: Democrats and Internet corporations like Google, Netflix, and Amazon are speaking out for net neutrality, Republicans and ISPs against it. Pro-net neutrality activists see existing rules as basis for a free internet.

Opponents of neutrality emphasize that certain companies need a more stable quality for ir content and also have to pay for this quality difference. Already before 2015, companies like Netflix providers have paid for ir content to arrive at full speed with users.
