“The colleague can be very pushy to women. So you stay at a distance. “–” It happens that a woman says no and thinks yes. That happens to us men all time. ” If re is 2017 a series that reflects MeToo debate, n it is top of lake – China Girl. Four years ago, New Zealand Oscar winner Jane Campion turned first part of her story around policeman Robin (Elisabeth Moss), who had to clarify murder of a pregnant twelve-year-old. Even n it was about rough men’s societies, drug trafficking and sexual abuse.

In sequel to China Girl, sexism is more hidden, but more difficult to combat: Elisabeth Moss (since her Emmy for Maid’s tale The official feminist of series World) is punished by her colleagues mainly by non-observance and her boss shares Her beloved Miranda as a colleague too (charming: Miranda is played by Gwendoline Christie, imposing Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones). Again, Commissioner identifies in case of a dead pregnant woman, this time it is an Asian prostitute who is stranded in a suitcase on coast of Sidney. Robin, however, is involved in case himself. She recovers her daughter Mary (Jane Campion daughter Alice Englert), who had released her as a baby for adoption. The 17-year-old rebels against her academic-elitist Adoptivelternhaus (Nicole Kidman and Ewen Leslie as a helicopter parent) and is a German wannabe-communist (David Dencik), who plays a dubious role within a brol.

Top of lake declined very cleverly different women’s and men’s roles and introduces dependence relationships between sexes, but also between children and parents. At some point, this is about important question of how far women have right to ir own bodies – and all that is in it. (Carolin Stroebele)
