A new Web-based bus service that launched Monday can get you to New York for about half the price of a local competitor.
OurBus ran its first-ever round-trip route Monday from Allentown to New York city with stops in Bethlehem and Easton. The fare is $16 one way.
“We operate what I think is the cheapest and quickest bus service between the Lehigh Valley and New York City,” said Axel Hellman, OurBus’ transportation planner.
Trans-Bridge Lines charges about $31 for a one-way fare, according to its website. But the commuter bus service offers a variety of times and stops.
OurBus keeps fares low by relying on idle buses from charter bus companies to handle its runs. The bus used Monday was from Saddle River Tours, Hellman said.
OurBus has no ticket windows. You need to buy your tickets on the Web.
Only one advance ticket was purchased for the maiden voyage Monday, but Hellman expects the ridership to grown during this two-month trial period. The company hopes to add more times and routes as it gains customers.

The bus stops at 161 N. Sixth St. in Allentown, 126 W Third St. in Bethlehem, 123 S. 3rd St. in Easton and 372 Park Avenue South in New York City.
The buses operate Monday through Friday and have reclining seats, free Wifi, charging ports and an on-board restroom.
Passengers who need handicapped-accessible accommodations should notify OurBus 48 hours in advance of their trip, Hellman said.
