John Wayne Airport continues to see passenger traffic grow, with an uptick of 3.5 percent reported in November compared with the same month a year prior.

The airline served 884,617 passengers. During the same month in 2015, the airport served 854,452.

International passenger traffic increased 7.5 percent.

Through November, passenger traffic was up 4.9 percent. Through the month, JWA saw 9,625,555 passengers compared with 9,179,868 the previous year.

It’s been a busy year for the airport which has seen increases in passenger traffic driven by new flights added for the past few years.

In August, Alaska Airlines will offer a daily, nonstop flight from JWA to Albuquerque, N.M.

Southwest, however, is losing seven daily flights and nearly 1 million passenger seats in 2017. The airline shed flights to Mexico City, which ended Jan. 4. Flights to Austin, Texas; Kansas City, Mo.; Portland, Ore.; St. Louis; and Seattle also ended in January; and flights to Puerto Vallarta cease April 25.

In the past, unused capacity from other carriers was used by Southwest. This year other carriers, including Delta, United and Alaska, requested additional capacity for 2017, leaving fewer supplemental seats for Southwest.
