Spain, April 10, 2023.

Last Tuesday, March 28, the Treasury and Justice signed the agreement that put an end to the strike that the Justice Administration Lawyers began on January 24 and that, without a doubt, has left devastating figures in the operation of the courts.

According to the Strike Committee, in this period of time 400,000 trials and hearings have been suspended and there are around 480,000 lawsuits pending to be managed in the courts. Despite the fact that it is a constitutional right included in article 28.2 of our Constitution (the workers’ right to strike to defend their interests), this “pressure tool” used by the Administration’s lawyers has not only led the very institution of which they are a part to produce instability in its functioning , but also, the action has served as a precedent for other legal operators of the Administration of Justice. For now, it has been the Justice officials who, following the example of the LAJs, have called a general strike scheduled for April 17 to demand a decent salary increase. This “call effect” generated by the instability that exists in the Administration and the lack of agreements between the Ministry of Justice and its employees highlights a worrisome future situation: the paralysis of more trials, hearings and lawsuits, or what is the same, that more work accumulates and the legal needs and services of Spanish citizens are even more diminished. The foregoing, which has to do with the failures of the human factor in the public management of Justice, inexcusably leads to the search for alternatives and solutions that have to do with the technological implementation applied to the sector juridico-legal.Alejandro Pintó: “The irruption of technologies such as ChatGPT tells us that robots will be fellow travelers in the performance of the profession” Alejandro Pintó Sala, president of Economist
