Cardinal Osoro Sierra, Metropolitan Archbishop of Madrid, granted on March 23, 2023 the “NIHIL OBSTAT” to Manuel de la Peña, for his entrance into the Order of Knighthood of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Cardinal Osoro literally describes him as “a good Christian, man of good reputation, integrity and sound manners”
Osoro is part of the College of Cardinals and participates in all the conclaves of the Roman Curia held in the Holy See. He is Vice President of the Episcopal Conference and maintains a close relationship with Pope Francis. The Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, has its origins in Godogredo de Bovillón, the main leader of the First Crusade, in the 11th century, and was born spontaneously after the conquest of Jerusalem by the crusader knights in the year 1099. In 1940, Pope Pius XII gave the Order a new statute and appointed a Cardinal protector. Today the Grand Master is Cardinal Fernando Filoni, appointed by Pope Francis on December 8, 2019, and who was one of the closest collaborators of Pope Benedict VI. Currently, the Order’s means are not the force of arms but the fraternal help of the knights and ladies to the Christians of the Holy Land. The Order has some 30,000 members, spread over 40 countries, and most of them are distinguished members of the European nobility, to whom custody of the Holy Land has been entrusted. Dr. Manuel de la Peña, president of the European Institute of Salud y Bienestar Social stresses that “as knights and ladies of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, it is integrated into this thousand-year-old tradition of the church, which invites us to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in the places where he lived his earthly existence and in the tomb where the humanity of Christ was buried”. And he adds that “the pilgrimage renews us, makes our hearts and lives more receptive to accepting what the Father wants, makes us ready to accept the challenges we encounter, illuminated by the unique experience of the Son of God, who was the first to travel this path, the Holy Land”. is Dr. Manuel de la Peña, who has written articles on ‘The therapeutic power of prayer’ and ‘In search of the miracles of Lourdes’, which is why he has received recognition from various Bishops, such as Juan José Omella, for the great precision of theological and ascetic concepts. De la Peña, in addition to being a professor of cardiology, is an Academician, doctor Cum Laude and writer. The books he has published are: ‘Heart Treatise’ (2010), ‘Patients’ Needs’ (2010), ‘Cardiopatients’ (2010), ‘Healthy Companies’ (2010), ‘e-Health’ (2010) , ‘Health Excellence: patients, innovation and technologies’ (2009), ‘Patient Satisfaction’ (2008), ‘Tobacco Control’ (2006), ‘WHO Health Surveillance Guide’ (2002), ‘Quality in Health Care’ (1999), ‘Cardiocheck’ (1993).
