A retailer selling children’s clothing online will now allow areas with big Orthodox Jewish populations to return merchandise for full refunds, nj1015.com is reporting.

Shan and Toad’s new return policy now reads: “If we identify an unreasonable return pattern, we may restrict or refuse future transactions and returns from such customers at shanandtoad.com.”

The retailer previously refused to offer Lakewood and Passaic City customers — as well as people in three New York locations — full refunds. Anyone living in those areas were only entitled to store credit or exchanges under the previous policy.

Shan and Toad agreed to change its policy after the state said it was violating anti-discrimination and consumer protection laws, according to nj1015.com.

There was no stated reason online behind the original policy. But the three towns had neighborhoods with large Orthodox Jewish populations.

The business owner told NJ 101.5 she noticed customers in those areas tended to return clothes that could not be re-sold, and did not mean to offend anyone.

It was not immediately clear when the company changed its policy.
