Alcoy, December 27, 2023.- The AITEX Research and Innovation Center has developed a pioneering project in the footwear sector, TEX4FOOT, in which advanced 3D knitting techniques are used to create technical and sustainable footwear, thus helping to transform the footwear industry.
The I D TEX4FOOT project, which has the support of the Ministry of Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Trade and Work of the Generalitat Valenciana through IVACE (IMAMCA/2022/6), focuses on the use of weaving techniques 3D to create more sustainable and functional footwear.
The main advance lies in the production of ‘Upper Shoes’ or shoe upper parts, woven in a single piece without seams, which significantly reduces textile waste and improves production efficiency. This technology allows the use of a wide range of textile fibers, from conventional to functional and high-performance, adapting to various needs and styles.
The results of TEX4FOOT are remarkable. On the one hand, footwear fabrics have been developed that improve water vapor permeability by 80% compared to commercial fabrics, which means a significant advance in thermal comfort and convenience. On the other hand, AITEX has created high mechanical resistance fabrics for safety footwear, reaching the maximum level of performance (Level F) in cut resistance according to UNE-EN ISO 13997 regulations.
These advances not only represent a step forward in terms of sustainability and functionality, but also open new possibilities in customization and design, offering the footwear sector tools to innovate and differentiate itself.
The AITEX TEX4FOOT project represents a great advance in innovation and sustainability in the footwear sector and also demonstrates the technology center’s commitment to technologies that respect the environment and improve the quality of life.
