More dense bars, new tram and subway routes, additional buses and a new start for a city-landscape railway: SPD City Council group wants to bring congested Munich transport to fore with an application package. Those who regularly use MVV, according to Bundestag group leader Alexander Reissl, are increasingly sensing how buses and railways reach ir limits. A decisive extension is to ensure that Munich retains its still existing role model in urban transport.
In a first step, Social Democrats call on municipal transport company MVG to have buses and trains run at shorter intervals. “We do not want to shear everything over a comb”, emphasizes city councillor Heide Rieke-as it once happened at tram after motto ten to ten. Rar, MVG should deliberately check on which routes more dense bars make sense. In order to decide in individual cases, MVG should show in detail how many vehicles would be necessary and wher infrastructure is still in play.

In event of an emergency, SPD also wants to take urban money into its own hands to finance new offers. This is already happening in millions: various lines, such as two new express bus lines, but also whole packages such as night network are already subsidized from municipal budget. This is because MVG must not make a negative difference in operating costs-orwise European directives threaten to call for tenders, which city as owner of municipal company absolutely wants to prevent.
As a minimum improvement, SPD calls for a timetable change of 2018 at least four new metro and express bus lines. Where new stops are meaningful, MVG should propose itself, says SPD councillor Jens Röver. In addition, until mid-2018, most important are 51 bus, which were already proposed in December last year. The SPD wants to revive somewhat asleep efforts to separate Busfahrbahnen. Provided that city Council agrees with application package. Then an urban taskforce is to bring Busoffensive 2018 and electromobility to MVV.

For time-consuming expansion of subway and tram, SPD proposes a fourth medium-term programme, for time being transport jointly for both rails. Role models are medium-term programmes, which have so far only been cut to subway, but which have not yet been completely completed. The U 4 to Englschalking and U 5 to Pasing are still components of third program. Part four could include in addition to inner City relief line U 9, for Reissl “most important extension of Munich Metro network”, also a re-examination of U 5 to Freiham, as well as previously only planned projects such as a new North brace.
SPD also wants to liquefy traffic outside city centre
However, this requires higher funds from federal government and Länder. The existing funds, since almost all German municipalities agree, are far from sufficient. Heavily growing cities with already well-developed transport are also difficult to meet eligibility criteria, which are more suited to development of new transport networks. The SPD group refore calls for so-called standardised evaluation to be revised. Among or things, not only new lines, but also renovations, should be subsidised. Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) has already raised same demand.
In order to liquefy traffic even outside city centre, SPD wants to invite to a mass transit conference with three directly adjacent counties of Munich, Dachau and Fürstenfeldbruck. It will be about new cross-border lines-subways, trams or even city-surrounding-Bahn. The latter was already planned many years ago, but n it failed because of concerns of Outland politicians who feared high costs. Reissl hopes that ir attitudes have changed in meantime.
