The ‘popular’ also propose to intensify the work for the commissioning and operation of the El Musel regasification plant
MADRID, 11 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Commission for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge of the Congress of Deputies will deliberate next Wednesday a non-legal proposal of the Popular Parliamentary Group to increase the capacities and levels of gas supply, storage, regasification and transportation in the peninsular system.
As stated in the proposal, to which Europa Press has had access, the initiative pays special attention to the interconnections with France, Portugal, Morocco and Algeria, in coherence, according to the ‘popular’, with the new communication from the European Union in this ambit.
The PP understands that in the context of the energy supply crisis, “all eyes turn to Spain and its gas system”, which in its opinion could be a solution that places the country “in the leadership of the energy transition with the gas as an “essential” vector in this transition.
In this context, the PP believes that one of the main points for the security and guarantee of supply in Europe are the interconnections, which would allow Spain to “cease to be an energy island”.
In addition, the parliamentary group understands that the management carried out by the Government “has been characterized by a notable lack of foresight and leadership”, which have led, according to the PP, to the closure of the Maghreb gas pipeline, as well as to the ” abandonment” of the projected gas interconnections with France (Midcat).
With this panorama, the proposal of the ‘popular’ proposes to relaunch “urgently”, and therefore simplifying the procedures in accordance with the EU, the new gas interconnections, specifically the Midcat project.
On the other hand, the PP proposes to promote regulatory changes in Spain and, where appropriate, within the EU, so that the execution and start-up periods of Midcat can be shortened, as well as its financing mechanisms such as Project of Common Interest or similar. Ultimately, the parliamentary group suggests intensifying the work for the commissioning and operation of the El Musel regasification plant.
