SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A car split in half Sunday afternoon after crashing into a utility pole near Davidson Mill Road and Gregory Court.
The crash — which occurred around 3:30 p.m. — downed wires, triggering a brush fire that officials say endangered a nearby horse farm.
Firefighters, however, quickly got the brush fire under control, police said.

The car — a 2000 Mitsubishi — was being driven by a 23-year-old county man who sustained injuries that are considered not life-threatening, which police attributed to the man wearing his seatbelt. The man was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
The man was heading west on Davidson Mill Road toward the New Jersey Turnpike overpass when the car lost control and left the roadway, striking the utility pole, police said.
Officials say it appeared the man was distracted while trying to reach for an object blowing out his car window.
The man’s identity was not released by police because his family had not yet been notified.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service and PSE&G responded to the scene.
Davidson Mill Road remains closed as of around 5 p.m. Residents in the area should expect intermittent power outages as PSE&G works to repair the downed wires, police said.
