BRIDGETON — Police believe that a drug deal gone bad led to a shooting and car crash Wednesday evening.
Bridgeton police were originally dispatched Wednesday at 5:25 p.m. to Elmer Street for reports of a fight — where they found a residence with damage to its front porch but no one at the scene. A few minutes later, police were told to go to Irving and Railroad avenues for a car crash.
Two vehicles were stopped in the roadway — one of which had two bullet holes in the windshield. One driver fed on foot while the other was uninjured. While at the crash scene, police were told that a man with a gunshot wound to the head arrived at Inspira Health Center Bridgeton.

The injured man told police that he was meeting an acquaintance on Elmer Street when he was robbed. He tried to drive away but crashed into the house and then drove away.
Authorities airlifted the man to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for a skull fracture.
The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Bridgeton Police Department by calling 856-451-0033 or the Crimestoppers Hotline at 856-455-5550. Information can also be submitted anonymously through the department’s Tip411 service.
