LAMBERTVILLE – The South Hunterdon Regional School district is holding a meeting Tuesday evening in response to news that two of its schools tested positive for having lead in their water that is above the level where action is required to be taken.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Lambertville Public School’s all-purpose room.

Officials from the district “will provide information about the new water testing standards required of all New Jersey schools and will review in greater detail our recent water findings at both Lambertville and West Amwell (Township Elementary School),” it was stated in a news release. “All concerned residents are encouraged to attend.”

A total of four out of 17 samples exceeded 15 parts per billion at Lambertville Public School, which uses public water, while two out of 14 samples at West Amwell Elementary School, which uses well water, exceeded that level, it was previously reported.

Superintendent Louis Muenker attributed more stringent testing requirements as a reason recent tests showed elevated levels of lead in the water.

The elevated lead levels has been an ongoing topic of conversation at a Lambertville public Facebook page.
