Author of seven books of poetry, including the 1993 American Book Award winner “Scene from the Movie GIANT,” Tino Villanueva comes to San Antonio for two readings as part of the Alamo Colleges Working Writers Series. Villanueva’s poems appear in many high school and college anthologies, and six of his poems are in “The Norton Anthology of Latino Literature” (2011).

His latest is “Gotta Be Me.”

Musician Matthew Rose has gathered an assorted group of musical friends to pay tribute to pop star George Michael, who died Christmas Day. The event is being touted as GarageWham! and features Jeff Smith, Hyperbubble, Joe Reyes, Carly Garza, Jason Trevino, Slowpoke, Michael Carrillo and Terry Garza. DJ Boo Boo Dan! will keep things going between songs such as “Faith,” “Careless Whisper” and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.”
