The $1 million Powerball ticket sold in New Jersey for Wednesday’s Powerball drawing was purchased at a supermarket in Bergen County.
The ticket was sold at Stop & Shop on West Railroad Avenue in Tenafly, state lottery officials said Thursday.
13 largest lottery jackpot winners in history
The Jersey ticket was one of five second-prize tickets sold nationally for a drawing that didn’t have a grand prize winner. Others were bought in California, Florida, Georgia and New York.
The New York ticket was sold at Union Square News and Grocery on 4th Avenue in Manhattan, New York State lottery officials said.
If any of the players had spent an extra $1 to exercise the Powerplay option, he or she would have won $2 million instead.
Saturday’s jackpot is worth at least $349 million with a cash option of $213.1 million. It will likely be the 19th largest lottery prize ever offered in the United States.
Wednesday’s winning numbers were 5, 28, 33, 38 and 42. The Powerball was 19.
There have now been three $1 million Powerball tickets sold in New Jersey this year. Others were bought in Oakhurst for the Feb. 4 drawing and in Woodbridge for the Jan. 28 drawing. There has also been a $1 Mega Millions ticket sold in Sussex Borough.
The odds of a $2 ticket matching five numbers are about 11,688,053 to 1.
No one has hit the Powerball jackpot since a $121.6 million jackpot was won in Delaware on Dec. 17. It’s played in 44 states, Washington D.C. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
