Cafe Matisse in Rutherford and the Franklinville Inn in Franklin (Gloucester County) are among the nation’s 100 most romantic restaurants, according to OpenTable.

The list “honors the seductive spots at which couples are creating connections and savoring delicious memories,” according to OpenTable. “Setting the table for romance involves an array of ingredients: scrumptious food, alluring ambience, and bespoke service.”

Cafe Matisse also made OpenTable’s 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in 2016 list. The restaurant, which is BYOB and offers various (and expensive) tasting menus, is situated in a historic building that was originally a horse and buggy firehouse. Colorful impressionist-style paintings and chandeliers create a playful, inviting atmosphere of simple elegance.

The Franklinville Inn’s mission is “presenting only the freshest seasonal ingredients, skillfully prepared and inventively presented.” The menu features numerous steak and seafood options.

Five restaurants in New York state made OpenTable’s list: Daniels Restaurant in Hamburg; La Cremaillere Restaurant in Bedford; Russell’s Steaks, Chops, and More in Williamsville; TS Steakhouse at Turning Stone, Verona; and Yono’s Restaurant in Albany.

Two restaurants in Pennsylvania are in the top 100 — Arielle’s Country Inn in Sellersville and the Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm in Holicong.

The list is based on an analysis of 10 million-plus reviews of more than 24,000 restaurants across the country — all submitted by verified diners, according to OpenTable. However, finding an available table at one of these restaurants for Valentine’s Day — the most romantic dining night of the year — may be a trickier task. According to OpenTable, neither restaurant has availability that night (though it’s always worth calling in case of last-minute reservations).
