Budweiser inserted itself into the political fray Tuesday after it released its new Super Bowl ad.
The beer giant is known for producing tear-jerking commercials, but instead of puppies and horses, the company chose to focus its newest ad on … immigrants.
The one-minute video, titled "Born the Hard Way," follows co-founder Adolphus Busch as he makes a trecharous voyage immigrating to the U.S. from Germany in the mid-1800s.
The dramatic video features Busch facing discrimination and criticism from Americans when he arrives in the States. People are seen shoving him and telling him to Betxlarge "go back" to where he came from.
Through a perilous journey and constant adversity, Busch eventually makes his way to St. Louis where he meets Ebert Anheuser – over a beer, naturally. And we all know how that duo turned out.
Budweiser said the commercial coming out during a time of widespread protests and disagreement over President Trump’s immigration ban is simply a coincidence.
In a press release Tuesday, Budweiser said it "believes freedom and the pursuit of the American dream are nothing without ambition," and that the story is one of "commitment, passion and never giving up or backing down."
Whether the company had political intentions or not, the ad’s timeliness in such a volatile climate over immigration will be obvious come Sunday.
