ANAHEIM – Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be invading Disney California Adventure this summer.
The Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout, Disney announced Wednesday that the much-hype ride will open May 27 and signal a much larger presence of Guardians and Marvel super heroes in the park.
For the first time, visitors will be able to meet and hang out with with tree creature Groot and the leader of the Guardians, the Star Lord, around Hollywood Land.
At night, old school music will play as visitors groove at a Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off.
Aside from the Guardians, Disney will offer an Avengers Training Initiative with female super hero Black Widow and Hawkeye. This attraction would be similar to Disneyland’s Jedi Training Academy.
Black Widow will also be part of a Marvel meet-and-greet that already includes Captain America and Spider-Man.
Disney is calling our warmer months “Summer of Heroes,” and the first of Disney’s attempt to transform parts of Disney California Adventure into a super hero themed land.
“It’s going to be a thrilling summer at the Disneyland Resort,” said David Duffy, director, creative entertainment in a statement.
“You can celebrate the arrival of Guardians of the Galaxy … and join forces with legendary Super Heroes.”
The Hollywood Tower Hotel, the 199-foot-tall building that housed the Twilight Zone Tower of Tower attraction, will hold the new attraction.
The basement, where visitors were led to the elevator-style ride, will be re-themed to match the Guardian story.
Visitors will enter the Collector’s futuristic fortress where he keeps unique artifacts from the Marvel galaxy. They will walk through a large vault and then wait to hop aboard the ride.
Riders will enter the ride – and the elevator will go haywire. This attraction, Disney has said, will be faster-paced than Tower of Terror, and what guests experience will vary. The journey will likely last about two minutes.
