Drake and Rihanna may have already split up, but that doesn’t mean the “Hotline Bling” rapper doesn’t have any feelings for her anymore.
On Monday, Feb. 20, the 30-year-old rapper was performing for fans during his Dublin concert when he gave a shoutout to a special someone celebrating their birthday that day. He seemed to have professed his love for Rihanna, who turned 29 on Monday. In a video taken by a fan present during the concert, Drake told the 3Arena crowd that the birthday celebrant is “somebody I have a lot of love for and a lot of respect for.”
“So, instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ though, we just going to do this in Dublin. Instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ we’re going to set it off just like this…” he continued, right before performing “Work,” his hit collaboration with Rihanna. Drake and Rihanna had been plagued with dating rumors for months before they confirmed their relationship in July last year, People noted. The rapper has always been open about his feelings for the singer-actress and even proclaimed his love for her in August when he presented her with an award at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.
“She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old. She’s one of my best friends in the world. She’s a living breathing legend in our industry,” he said of the singer, before giving Rihanna a kiss and presenting her with the Video Vanguard Award.
Following Drake and Rihanna’s breakup, the rapper was linked to Jennifer Lopez, 47. Rumors of the two dating surfaced in December last year, after they both shared photos of them cuddling and being affectionate with each other on their respective Instagram accounts.
However, earlier this month, sources said that Drake and the “Shades of Blue” actress’ relationship may have “fizzled” because they didn’t have time to see each other. “She likes Drake. They’re just busy, so it has fizzled. She’s a mom with an insanely busy career. He’s touring in Europe. Who knows what will happen in the future when they’re more able to be in the same place,” an insider close to Lopez told Entertainment Tonight.
Lopez, on the other hand, told another story when she stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” for a chat on Tuesday. She told host Ellen DeGeneres that she and Drake only wrote a song together and hung out as friends.
“We were not writing a song right at that moment. We were just hanging out,” she told DeGeneres, after the host brought out snaps of them showing major PDA. “Actually he sent me a song that he wanted me to be on, and then I got on the song, and yeah, we have a song together.”
