AMC Theatres and 21st Century Fox announced Tuesday they are hosting a free screening of the Oscar-nominated film "Hidden Figures" Saturday on the Southwest Side.

The first-come, first-served reserved screening is set for 10 a.m. at AMC Ford City 14 in West Lawn. The event is part of free screenings scheduled for 14 cities across the country to celebrate Black History Month.

Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae play three mathematicians who work for NASA during the era of racial segregation. "Hidden Figures" was released in December.

Henson, who films the Fox drama "Empire" in Chicago, rented a Ford City theater last month for a free "Hidden Figures" screening.

Schools, community groups and non-profit organizations can apply for additional special screenings. The application deadline is Feb. 28, with winners set to be notified next month.
