Even in the roar of the year’s biggest concert, Lady Gaga hit her notes.
From paying homage to “The Sound of Music” at the Grammy Awards to an album with jazz great Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga’s vocal chops are not in doubt. But one would expect a set at the Super Bowl full of pyrotechnics and choreography to take a toll on any singer: judging by a newly surfaced isolated vocal recording that appear to be from Gaga’s microphone at her Feb. 5 performance at NRG Stadium, the pop star came prepared.
Gaga’s dancing was as memorable as the music: she paused from the high-energy performance of hits such as “Born This Way” and “Bad Romance” only for a few moments at the piano for “Joanne” track “Million Reasons.” But the recording makes clear the Super Bowl got itself a singer who could do both.
“She should win a Grammy for best live performance ever,” one fan wrote on YouTube.
“QUEEN OF VOCALS,” another added.
We were also fans of her Super Bowl performance, which managed to deliver LGBT anthems and political hints amidst an exuberant 13 minutes.
Never one to take it easy, Gaga followed up her Super Bowl set with a stage-diving performance alongside Metallica at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, just a week later. Her world tour starts Aug. 1, with the closest date to Oregon an Aug. 5 date at Tacoma, Washington’s Tacoma Dome.
