She’s not president, but Hillary Clinton seems to be the queen of Broadway. For the third time in five weeks, Clinton sparked cheers and a standing ovation at a Broadway show, this time at the “Sunset Boulevard” revival with Glenn Close Wednesday night.
Clinton arrived minutes before the curtain rose, but audience members quickly spotted her and started cheering, clapping and whistling for the former presidential candidate. It’s an encore of her previous appearances on the Great White Way — earlier this month, she was greeted with chants of “Hill-a-ree” at “In Transit,” and in January, she attended the final performance of “The Color Purple” with husband Bill and daughter Chelsea, where she received a long standing ovation.
Clinton carried New York City with 79 percent of the vote, winning four of five boroughs — and in recent weeks has been suggested as a viable candidate for New York City mayor (barring the fact she lives in Westchester County). She has been a favorite of the Broadway crowd, particularly Lin-Manuel Miranda and the “Hamilton” cast, which incurred the wrath of Donald Trump when they called out then-Vice President-Elect Mike Pence and asked him to work for “all of us.”
