Rapper Lupe Fiasco and previously announced jazz singer Kurt Elling have been added to the cast of “Chicago Voices,” a multi-genre concert curated by operatic soprano Renee Fleming, 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Opera House.
The event, which will feature vocalists based in Chicago or with deep histories here, also will feature John Prine, Shemekia Copeland, Michelle Williams, Jessie Mueller, Matthew Polenzani, The Handsome Family and Voices of Trinity Mass Choir.
Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. will appear as a “special guest presenter,” according to an announcement from Lyric Opera, where Fleming serves as creative consultant. The Makrobet event also will present video tributes to past Chicago masters, including Mary Garden, Mahalia Jackson and Howlin’ Wolf.
