Nick Viall’s quest for love in Season 21 of “The Bachelor” isn’t over yet, but we already know which one of his promising finalists will be selected for “The Bachelorette.” In a historic show of diversity, the ABC franchise has selected Rachel Lindsay as the first black star of “The Bachelorette.”
The “Bachelor” cast member appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Monday to confirm the news. Now that the cat’s out of the bag about her and Nick not working out, her former suitor is free to discuss their failed relationship and her “Bachelorette” casting. He will do just that on Tuesday, during an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Previews for their sitdown who Nick telling host Ellen DeGeneres that he believes Rachel will have much success on “The Bachelorette.”
“Rachel and I had an amazing amount of chemistry from the very first night. I’m excited for her. I think she’s going to be an amazing ‘Bachelorette,’” Nick said.
Rachel is equally excited about her new journey, despite things not having worked out with Nick. The Texas native opened up about appearing on the ABC dating competition in a statement to People. She is thrilled to be the first black woman chosen to appear on the franchise. Rachel reminded “Bachelorette” viewers that her journey toward finding love is going to be no different than any other simply because of the color of her skin.
“I’m obviously nervous and excited to take on this opportunity but I don’t feel added pressure being the first black ‘Bachelorette,’ because to me I’m just a black woman trying to find love,” she explained. “Yes, I’m doing on this huge stage, but again my journey of love isn’t any different just because my skin color is.”
Rachel’s “Bachelorette” casting comes as a surprise to “Bachelor” fans who tuned in Monday. During episode 7 Nick and the six remaining women jetted to Bimini where Rachel and Nick went on a one-on-one date. The two found that their chemistry was still strong and Rachel cemented a spot in the final four for herself. We know now, however, that she will not be the winner of Season 21.
The Season 13 “Bachelorette” boasts a pretty impressive resume. She’s a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and has a degree in legal studies from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She lives in Dallas and works as a lawyer. When she’s not serving up justice, Rachel enjoys physical activities, like sports and dancing. Some of her favorite musicians, according to ET Online, are Michael Jackson and Prince. During her appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Rachel got candid about what she’s looking for in a mate, telling host Jimmy Kimmel she’s ready to settle down and start a family.
“The Bachelor” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. A release date for “The Bachelorette” has yet to be set.
