Someone discovered a man they initially thought was asleep behind an Evanston business Friday, but emergency responders said the unidentified man was dead.
Police received a call around 10 a.m. Friday, with the caller stating they saw a man in the rear of a business in the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue the caller believed was sleeping. But the caller told police they could not wake him up, police said Friday in a news release.
The Evanston Fire Department responded to the scene with police and found that the man, whom police would only identify as a 48-year-old whose last known address was in Evanston, was dead, according to the news release.
Police said an initial investigation indicated that there were no signs of foul play, the news release states.
The man’s body was taken to the Cook County medical examiner’s office where an autopsy is pending, police said.
Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said police have not determined how long the man may have been behind the business. He said the death investigation is ongoing.
The man’s identity is being withheld, police said, until his next of kin can be notified.
