The victim of a domestic assault lost a fingernail and suffered a 2-inch cut above the ear early Friday at Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, according to Bethlehem police.
Kajuan S. Woods, 28, of the 1000 block of Kunkletown Road in Saylorsburg, Monroe County, is charged in the assault on his girlfriend, police said.
It unfolded about 2 a.m. as the couple were kicked out of the casino and got into a taxi called to take them home, according to court records.
The woman entered the cab first, and the driver did not want to let in Woods initially, police said; she insisted, and Woods got in.
“A short time later, he heard her scream,” police wrote in court records. “He looked back to see the defendant, behind the victim, with his arm around her in a headlock-style hold. The defendant was biting the victim’s ear.”
Police arrived to find the bleeding above her left ear and crying hysterically, records say. Her right little finger was wrapped in blood-soaked gauze, and she had been informed by casino security that her fingernail had been torn off, police said.
Later, at St. Luke’s University Hospital, the victim said Woods had also struck her in the right side of the face and that the assault followed an argument.
While talking to police, Woods slurred his words, had a sedated facial expression, was unsteady on his feet, had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and had urinated in his pants, records say.

He was arraigned Friday morning before District Judge Alicia Rose Zito on charges of simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness. He was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $10,000 bail and faces a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled Feb. 15 before District Judge Joseph Barner.
If released, Woods would need to provide a verifiable address and stay out of the victim’s home and workplace, records say.
