An influential republican senator has joined on Saturday its voice to those of the democrats to denounce it as an act of “corruption” a serious decision of Donald Trump, the day before, to commute the sentence of his long-time friend Roger Stone. The republican senator Mitt Romney, regularly critical of Donald Trump, is the first influential member of the presidential party to rise up publicly against this decision.

“Corruption is historic, unprecedented : an american president commutes the prison sentence of a person convicted by a jury for having lied to protect this president,” tweeted Mitt Romney, the former republican candidate in the 2012 presidential election. The senator from Utah is the only member of the Grand Old Party to be voted in February in favor of the impeachment of Donald Trump in the context of the case Ukrainian.
