Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday that the transformation of the former basilica of hagia Sophia into a mosque, in spite of warnings to the stranger, after a court revoked the status of a museum of this high place of tourism in Istanbul.

The Council of State, highest administrative court of Turkey, acceded to the request of several associations in revoking a government decision dating back to 1934, giving the hagia Sophia the status of a museum.
