The local franchise of GYMGUYZ is running a contest that will give one child, age 5-18, three months of free weekly personal training.

The confidence campaign is searching for a deserving child who needs a self-esteem boost, said Aaron Behrens, local franchise owner. Parents, teachers or friends can nominate kids via the GYMGUYZ website or Facebook page.

“We are really hoping it is a confidence booster and it really helps this child feel better about themselves emotionally and physically,” said Behrens, of Bethlehem. “What’s important is how they feel about themselves.”

As a company, GYMGUYZ focuses on making a real difference in people’s lives and that’s where the confidence campaign came in, Behrens said.

“We felt we could make an impact collectively in how to deal with bullying,” he said. “It is a way to positively impact these kids’ lives through teamwork, fun dedication and helping them feel good about themselves.”

Nominations are open until the end of March and the winner will be announced early in April. All of the nominees will be eligible for discounted group fitness classes, Behrens said.

“The key is to impact as many kids as we can in the Lehigh Valley,” he said.

The workouts will be tailored to the child’s age. So, a 6-year-old’s workout would be fun and playful, without them realizing they are even exercising, while an older teen would be doing very specific exercises.

“It is really about cultivating an environment of empowerment,” Behrens said. “Ultimately, that is what we are trying to do here.”
