Three children whose parents allegedly tried to starve to death have doubled their weight in foster care, a Dauphin County official said Monday in a published report.
Ross Weyant, 33, and his wife, Brandi, 38, of Halifax Township, gave up their right to a preliminary hearing on Monday on charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and related offenses, pennlive.com reports.
DA: Children starved are thriving
The children — a 6-year-old boy and 5- and 4-year-old girls — are out of the hospital and being cared for by a medical professional, the news website said, attributing Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Gettle.
“They are thriving,” Gettle told pennlive.com.
The children were discovered Dec. 16, the website said. They had been locked for long periods of time in an unheated bedroom, pennlive.com said.

When found, the 4-year-old weighed 26 pounds, the 5-year-old weighed 23 pounds and the 6-year-old weighed 27 pounds, pennlive.com said, citing court documents.
“There looked like they walked out of a concentration camp,” Gettle told the website.
The parents tried to starve the children “because Joshua Weyant no longer wanted them,” pensive.com said, attributing police. In addition to starvation, the children were also assaulted by their parents, authorities told the website.
