A man in a pickup truck tried to lure a girl walking with her mother in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Monday afternoon, police said.

The man parked in a gas station parking lot tried to lure the girl in the first block of North Kilbourn Avenue, just north of Madison Street, about 2 p.m. Monday, according to police.

The man saw the girl and her mother as they walked by and said to the girl, “Come here to the car. Come here. Get in the back seat,” according to a police alert warning Harrison District residents of the attempted child luring.

The mother heard what the man said and told him to leave them alone and she was calling police.

The man drove off north on Kilbourn and the mother went into the gas station and called police, according to the alert.

The man was described as black, about 40 years old and with a beard. He was wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses and driving a blue pickup truck, possibly a GMC or Chevrolet.

Anyone with information on the man is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8200 or submit an anonymous tips via TIPSOFT.COM.
