A Hellertown man was taken into custody after allegedly showing a handgun to a woman in his home, which led to a brief standoff with police.

Barry Kunsman, 45, of the 100 block of Main Street, at 4:31 p.m. Sunday was in a dispute with the woman, police said. It’s unclear what led to the argument or the relationship between the pair.

An officer at the Hellertown Police Department Sunday evening said no further information was available about the incident.

Officers with both the Hellertown Police Department and Lower Suacon Police Department responded and set up a perimeter around the home. Negotiators worked to talk Kunsman out of the home and to surrender to police.

He was then taken to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation, according to police.

Police Chief Robert Shupp said the incident was resolved quickly. Charges are yet to be filed in the case.
