LAMBERTVILLE – Hugo A. Tobias, 38, of Flemington, was charged with theft by police at 3:15 on Sunday, according to a police report.

Tobias was arrested by Lt. Robert Brown as the result of an investigation into $1,000 taken from a lost wallet that was found inside Valparaiso’s Deli on Route 29 on Dec. 30, police said.

Surveillance footage from the store showed Tobias reportedly picking up the wallet, leaving the store and then putting the wallet back where he found it, police said.

Tobias was released with a pending court date, police said.

City police also reported Brown arrested David Jones, 59, of Lambertville, and charged him with DUI at 6:21 p.m. on Jan. 31.

Brown stopped Jones on Route 518 near Highland Avenue because his vehicle had a license plate light out and a loud muffler, police said. Brown was also issued motor-vehicle summonses for careless driving, maintenance of lamps and having a loud muffler. He was released with a pending court date, police said.
