The soldiers took part in the MAPLE RESOLVE 2022 simulation for ten days at the base in Wainwright, Alberta.
The DATE Europe scenario sets up a deteriorating security situation in Eastern Europe, simulating an invasion of the Baltic countries by a fictitious force from the east and forcing NATO forces to intervene.
A situation that is therefore similar to the current conflict in Ukraine, confirmed the Minister of National Defense, Anita Anand, during a visit to the training site on May 12.
The exercise aimed to test the soldiers in a near-real environment, with simulated villages full of actors and backgrounds that replicated conditions with media and social media.
“Exercise MAPLE RESOLVE 2022 was the first MAPLE RESOLVE exercise to use the DATE Europe scenario, which provided a realistic portrait for our soldiers to test their combat skills, conduct operations in the spectrum and work with key partners and allied forces,” said Colonel Patrick Robichaud, Commanding Officer of the Canadian Maneuver Training Centre.
While the scenario was not designed for a particular deployment, it prepares soldiers to participate in operations such as NATO REASSURANCE.
Remember that 700 Canadian soldiers are already present in Latvia as part of this operation to protect other Eastern European countries from a Russian invasion and a hundred soldiers have also been sent to Poland.
A total of 1,455 members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) were deployed.
