Norwegian transported more than 1.1 million during the month of January, which represents an increase of 78% compared to the same month of 2022, while the average occupancy, of 77.7%, was eight percentage points higher, according to informed the airline, which has indicated that January is historically the quietest month of the year for the sector.
In the interannual rate, Norwegian transported 18.34 million passengers, 172% more than in the same period of the previous year, with an occupancy rate of 83.4%, eleven percentage points more.
“People traditionally travel less in January, and use this time of year to book their next trips. That being said, we had nearly full flights to warmer destinations this month. Our New Year’s sales campaign resulted in over a million seats sold, a good start for ticket sales this year We see the positive booking trend continuing also after the promotion Many of our passengers are currently planning their trips for the school holidays and long weekends in May this year,” said Norwegian CEO Geir Karlsen.
“The past week has been a very particular one for the Nordic aviation sector, marked by the bankruptcy of Flyr. I am very sympathetic to the employees, customers and others affected by the situation. We would like to ensure that the affected passengers reach their destinations , as long as we have vacancies available. We also invite employees who have been affected by the bankruptcy to apply for existing vacancies at Norwegian,” added Karlsen.
Capacity (measured in ASK, the total number of seats offered by an aircraft per kilometer flown) was 1,870 million seat-kilometres, while actual passenger traffic (measured in PKT, total number of passengers carried on an aircraft per kilometer flown) was 1,453 million seat-kilometres.
In January, Norwegian operated an average of 62 aircraft and 99.5% of scheduled flights were completed. Punctuality, measured by the number of flights leaving within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, was 85% in January.
