The owner of an Orlando nightclub where two people were killed and another eight injured in a shooting last February has filed for bankruptcy, federal court records show.
Setay McKnight, who owned the now-shuttered Glitz Ultra Lounge on Universal Boulevard, is claiming almost $390,000 in liabilities, including $112,844 in credit card and charge account debts.
McKnight and the business, DiMaggio’s Ultra Lounge Corp., are facing lawsuits from the club’s landlord, a St. Petersburg firm that claims it is owed $271,000 in unpaid rent. A man injured in the shooting is also suing.
McKnight also listed a home in Apopka and a 2016 Nissan GTR worth $65,000 as assets. The home was listed as protected, meaning creditors cannot seize it, but the car was not.
McKnight’s attorney declined to comment Tuesday.
Orlando police said the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two rival gangs with connections to Puerto Rico: Los Lobos and Los Alqaedas.
The fight began when one accused gang member smashed his drinking glass into a rival gang member’s face. Others pulled out their weapons, killing Joseph Villalobos, 22, and Jonathan Avila Rojas, 33.
The shooting injured four people police described as innocent bystanders and another four suspected gang members.
Of the four people arrested in the shooting, two remain in the Orange County Jail: Carlos Perez De Armas, who is being held on no bond; and Christian Castro-Cotto, who has a $65,000 bond.
Jose Angel Hernandez is out of jail on bond while he waits for trial. Luis Gadiel Cruz-Nazario was released on his own recognizance because of a procedural problem and, less than a month later, was shot and killed in Belle Isle.
