Football coach Paul Cronin will stay at Cardinal Newman, after a briefly accepting an offer to teach and coach at Windsor High School.
On Feb. 1, Cronin acknowledged rumors that had been floating around for days — that he was leaving his successful program at the private Catholic school to coach the Jaguars, while also teaching at the large public school.
This week was to be his last at Newman.
But Cronin had a change of heart over the past several days and notified Windsor officials Tuesday he would remain at Newman.
“He was given a job offer that would have gone into effect on the 14th of February,” Windsor principal Marc Elim said. “I just found out today he has decided to say at Cardinal Newman.”
In 14 seasons at the helm, Cronin led the Cardinals to seven North Bay League championships or co-championships and five North Coast Section titles, including the most recent Division 4 banner. Twice Cronin’s teams made it to a CIF state championship game, losing to Oaks Christian in 2006 and St. Bonaventure in 2008.
