The excitement is perceptible on the construction site of the ephemeral hotel, a few days before the opening to the public.
Despite a month of December warmer and less snowy than usual, everything indicates that the doors will open as planned between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
“We dared to make several luxury suites, to make a bar area and a bigger hall. We really came back in force at the architectural level and at the structural level”, explains Hugues Painchaud, site manager of the Hôtel de Glace.
Enough to give a smile to some 70 workers, craftsmen and sculptors who take turns day and night, after two years when the size of the building had to be reduced due to the fall in tourism.
Infatuation
While the pandemic had literally cut traffic in half, this year, it’s quite the opposite. The craze is there and even surprises a little, with more than 850 nights confirmed to date.
“Our occupancy rate is very good. We are in the standards we had in the past,” says Sylvain Lauzon, President and Chief Operating Officer of Groupe Calypso Valcartier.
Village Vacances Valcartier, which is hosting the Hôtel de Glace for the 7th time, had set itself a goal of 1,000 overnight stays for the entire season.
A record number of 22 themed suites will be offered. “So, for visitors, there are even more things to discover,” underlines Mr. Lauzon.
Others sign do not lie about the activity which resumes, while more than twenty weddings are already on the program. In addition, the international clientele is massively returning.
Night life
As if to make people forget the bad memories of the pandemic, the Hôtel de Glace team has promised to make visitors dream by choosing to explore the theme of nightlife, which will be reflected in all the rooms. .
The artistic creations will appeal to wonder, astronomy, Greek mythology, the First Nations or even dance.
In addition, guests will be able to fully enjoy the experience of having a drink in the hotel’s ice bar, which was not possible on this date last year due to health regulations.
We have also planned an elevated station to accommodate a DJ, who will offer performances every Saturday evening.
In addition, a partnership with Défi-Évasion will offer a new course with a series of puzzles to solve.
