Five people, including a 2-year-old boy and his uncle, have been killed and at least five other people were wounded in shootings since Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

The man, the 2-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman were shot about 1:30 p.m. in an alley between the 2300 blocks of South Kenneth Avenue and South Kostner Avenue.

Minutes after the triple shooting, police were sent to the 3400 block of West Walnut Street and North Homan Avenue, where one man was fatally shot. The 62-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds about 2:40 p.m. and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

About 11:55 a.m., a 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 2000 block of East 71st Street in the South Shore neighborbood, according to a police media notification. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest and later pronounced dead.

The man went into a store on 71st Street and was followed into the store by another person, who fired shots at the man, killing him, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

The man was identified as James Johnson, 23, of the 6300 block of South Keating Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at 12:38 p.m.

Earlier Tuesday, a 30-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest in 4100 block of West 18th Street around 9:30 a.m., according to police. The man was dead on arrival at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police. The man was a passenger in a vehicle when someone pulled up in a vehicle nearby and someone fired shots, hitting the man, according to police. The driver of the car the victim was in then drove to Mount Sinai instead of calling an ambulance. He was pronounced dead at 9:53 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office, which was not yet releasing information on his identity.

In other shootings:

  • About 7:15 p.m., a 22-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Hermosa neighborhood, police said. He was walking in the 1600 block of North Keeler Avenue when someone inside a dark-colored sedan opened fire, striking him in the lower back and buttocks. He took himself to Norwegian American Hospital, and his condition was later stabilized at Stroger Hospital.
  • In the South Austin neighborhood, a man and a woman were shot about 4:15 p.m. in the 200 block of South Laramie Avenue, according to police. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, while the woman was in good condition at Loretto Hospital. No one was in custody.
  • Also in the Austin neighborhood, a 28-year-old man was shot about 11:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Mayfield Avenue, according to police. The man was shot in the right leg and was treated on the scene by city paramedics, according to police.
