A Vernon resident told police on Sept. 12 that her purse was stolen from her vehicle five days earlier while it was in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

A woman cashed six checks from the stolen purse at TD Bank locations worth $15,000, said Detective Nevin Mattessich.

The vehicle used by the woman appears to be a newer model Hyundai Santa Fe with plates belonging to a Jeep Grand Cherokee, he said.

Police released a photo of the woman seeking to identify her.
