Kyle Schwarber will get his wish, as the Chicago Cubs announced Wednesday morning that their prized slugger has been cleared to resume catching.

Schwarber, 24, who tore two ligaments in his left knee on April 7, will be relegated to catching drills once or twice a week while his main defensive focus remains in left.

Schwarber was medically cleared to catch after undergoing a physical examination by team doctor Stephen Gryzlo.

The Cubs emphasized Tuesday that Schwarber will participate in meetings with the catchers but that his work will be limited under the supervision of coach Mike Borzello.

The Cubs’ first workout for pitchers and catchers starts Wednesday.
