A 63-year-old woman died of natural causes before the second floor of her home caught fire Tuesday in Newberg, officials said Friday.
The fire inside Kathryn Sigler’s home at 1508 Paradise Drive was lit from an unattended portable cooking appliance before 10 a.m., said Capt. Jeff Kosmicki, Newberg-Dundee Police Department spokesman. No foul play is suspected in her death, he said in a news release.
Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the flames from the second floor then found Sigler, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Sigler’s dog managed to escape but suffered some smoke inhalation. The pet was taken to a veterinarian for care, and there were no other victims.
