What’s next? That the Portland City Council will rename itself the “Committee of Public Safety” and declare landlords to be Enemies of the People? Perhaps it’s already happening! Perhaps Pioneer Square is really being renovated in preparation as a place of execution. Private property will be confiscated and returned to the long suffering peasants … .er, people. Insolent landlords will find themselves loaded into tumbrels and on their way to La Place de l’Execution (Pioneer Square). And just before the blade falls each former landholder will have his or her name recorded for all eternity by Portland’s own tricoteuse and Madame Defarge (Chloe Eudaly). Ah yes, it will truly be the best of times and the worst of times.
