The front-desk telephone numbers at some Los Angeles Police Department stations in the San Fernando Valley were not working Thursday morning, authorities said.

The phone issue, which did not affect emergency 9-1-1 service, was discovered around 6 a.m. Thursday, and repairs were being made as quickly as possible, said LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar.

On Thursday morning, calls placed to the Devonshire, Van Nuys, West Valley and Valley Traffic divisions were greeted by a message from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti thanking them for calling 3-1-1. West Valley’s line was working as of 11 a.m., but the others were remained down.

There was no estimate on when the repairs would be complete, Aguilar said.

If residents are unable to reach the station via the desk number, Aguilar said they can call 877-275-5273, or for certain types of reports go online to www.lapdonline.org.

Aguilar added that 9-1-1 is specifically meant for emergencies, and if residents try to call it to reach a local station, their call will go to LAPD Communications and not the station they’re trying to reach.

LAPD Valley Traffic Division Detective William Bustos confirmed that the Valley Traffic division phone was not working and said he did not have a timeline for when it would be repaired.

“We’re waiting for that,” Bustos said. “We have to access our voicemails.”
