Johnathan Fernandez said that working with Damon Wayans on the set of “Lethal Weapon” is so much fun, but he admitted that acting opposite the veteran comedian involves a little pressure on his part.
“It’s really crazy as a person coming from comedy because he is a legend,” Fernandez told TheCelebrityCafé .com when asked what it’s like working with Wayans, who plays Roger Murtaugh on the FOX buddy cop series. “He’s one of the funniest people of all time. To be able to work with him every day is like … wow… I have to be my funniest right now at all time.”
“It’s a little bit of pressure at the end of the day because I really want to make him laugh,” explained Fernandez, who plays Scorsese on the show. “I keep a mental note in my head like ‘oh this really made him laugh.’ He just really elevates everyone’s game because we all realize he’s one of the funniest people of all time so we’re like let’s keep up. It’s really fun to be working with that guy on the set for sure.”
Fernandez’s co-star Keesha Sharp has said the same thing about Wayans. During an interview with E! News at FOX Emmys party last October, Sharp — who plays Trish Murtaugh on “Lethal Weapon” — said that working with the Emmy-nominated comedian has been nothing but “laughter, laughter and more laughter.”
And it looks like Wayans gives serious advice, too. In an interview with Michigan Avenue, Dante Brown — who portrays Wayans and Sharp’s onscreen son on the series — said that the “In Living Color” alum is “like the wise owl.” “He has so much wisdom and so much information to give,” Brown said. “I’m always asking him questions about business, money, and life, and he’s always willing to give [answers].”
An all-new episode of “Lethal Weapon” airs on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. EST on FOX. Check out the synopsis and trailer for Season 1, episode 14, titled “The Murtaugh File,” below:
“A brutal car crash reveals that Cahill (Jordana Brewster) is the target of a murderous stalker, causing Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Murtaugh to turn the tables and start asking her questions for a change. Meanwhile, after finding Murtaugh’s file in Cahill’s office, Riggs becomes obsessed with finding out about his past as Roger and Trish reel over their daughter’s (Chandler Kinney) newfound fake ID.”
