TRENTON — A Mercer County employee has been charged with lying under oath about her salary and benefits during a family court case, authorities said Monday.

Sherley Gaie, 44

Sherley Gaie, 44, of Trenton, was arrested last week after a three-month investigation by the prosecutor’s office’s Economic Crime Unit.

Authorities say Gaie submitted falsified documents to the court reflecting that her salary was less than what county records indicated. She also told the court that she did not receive Social Security benefits for her disabled son when, in fact, she did and provided a falsified document to support her claim.

Gaie is charged with one count of third-degree perjury, two counts of third-degree tampering with public records and two counts of fourth-degree forgery.

Gaie works as social worker at the Mercer County Board of Social Services, an autonomous agency of the county.

Jeff Mascoll, the board’s director, said Gaie is suspended pending the adjudication of the charges, but would not say whether she is being paid or not. Gaie has worked at MCBOSS since September 2008 and receives an annual salary of $72,791.
